CONSULAR SERVICES - FOR FOREIGNERS
Currently Bulgaria issues national visas only. Those visas do not give their holders the right to enter the Schengen area!

Canadian citizens do NOT need visa to visit Bulgaria for up to 90 days within each period of six months, beginning from the first entry!
Visas are required for longer periods of stay or for purposes other than tourism/visit - Visa type D.

If documents are sent by mail, a self-addressed pre-stamped envelope for return by registered mail or courier must be enclosed

State tax, in accordance with the regulations in force (see bellow), collected at the time of application. The tax is not refundable if the visa is refused.

Payment of fees is accepted in cash, certified cheque or money order, payable to "Consulate General of Bulgaria” only in Canadian dollars. Personal cheques and credit cards are not accepted.




DRIVING

Motor vehicle insurance can be arranged at the border. To drive in Bulgaria during up to 6 months period, a valid driving license from the country of citizenship is required. The original driving license has to be translated in Bulgarian.

TRAVELING WITH PETS

Pets you must have a certificate of veterinarian examination carried out within one week before departure, as well as a certificate of rabies shot made during the last six months.

POLICE REGISTRATION

It is mandatory that all foreign visitors register with a regional police department within 48 hours of entering Bulgaria. This is stipulated by Bulgarian law and non-compliance may result in fines from BGN 200 to BGN 5,000. Bulgarian authorities must also be notified in case a foreign visitor changes the address where s/he is staying. In the case of staying at a hotel, the registration is carried out by the hotel’s administration.

ARE YOU CARRYING 10 000 EUROS IN CASH?

All travelers entering or leaving EU through Bulgaria with 10 000 Euros or more in cash must declare the sum to customs in order to comply with Regulation (EC) No 1889/2005 of the European Parliament and the Council applicable from June 15, 2007. This initiative has been taken to assist the efforts being made at EU level to tackle crime and improve security by cracking down on money laundering, terrorism and criminality.
