Bulgarian Sunday School “Kanev” is an educational and cultural centre dedicated to preserving the Bulgarian language, history, traditions, and national identity among Bulgarian children living in Canada.

Our mission is to help every child build a strong connection with their Bulgarian roots by combining high-quality education with an inspiring, welcoming, and supportive environment. We believe that knowledge of one’s native language and culture is an invaluable gift that connects generations and fosters a sense of belonging.

Education for All Ages

Bulgarian Sunday School “Kanev” provides instruction for children from the preparatory level through Grade 12, following approved educational programs adapted to the age and proficiency level of the students.

For younger children aged 3–4, the school offers an early learning program in which, through games, songs, stories, creative activities, and age-appropriate exercises, children take their first steps in learning about the Bulgarian language and culture in a calm, friendly, and stimulating environment.

What We Offer

• Instruction in Bulgarian language and literature
• Study of the history and geography of Bulgaria
• Introduction to Bulgarian traditions, customs, and holidays
• Creative activities, arts, and cultural projects
• Preparation for and participation in celebrations, concerts, and community initiatives
• A supportive environment in which children can build friendships and develop confidence as members of the Bulgarian community

Forms of Instruction

The school offers two forms of instruction:

In-person instruction – for children living in the Greater Toronto Area.

Online distance learning – available to students throughout Canada and anywhere in the world, enabling more Bulgarian families to provide their children with education in the Bulgarian language and culture.
